Just four days prior to its original release date, the movie got leaked on piracy platforms owing to which the makers had to release the film on July 27. Now, in a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the actress has opened up about its online leak and asserted that the damage caused by the leak was brought under control and that the unexpected release created a buzz.
While explaining how the film’s leak had a positive impact on the film, Kriti said, “If it was slated to release theatrically and then got leaked prior to that, it would’ve been a huge setback. But since it came on OTT, we had a lot more control. It created a lot of buzz because its release was completely unexpected. Everything has a silver lining.”
Bootlegged copies of Laxman Utekar directorial, in Full HD and 4K, emerged on numerous pirate sites and Telegram.
‘Mimi’ is not the first movie to have become the victim of piracy. Previously, Salman Khan's Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai was also leaked by platforms.
Earlier, while speaking with Mid-Day, Mimi’s director Laxman Utekar had talked about the movie’s online leak and said he was quite hurt. “I feel hurt because we worked hard on the film. It took us two years to make Mimi. We waited long for the theatres to open, but the situation compelled us to release it on OTT. We were satisfied with the fact that it will be watched by the audience, After its got leaked, we were stunned. It makes us wonder if we could have been more careful,” he was quoted as saying.
